Latcho Drom! __________________________________________________ The New Gypsy Swing Quintet is a jazz string ensemble celebrating the Manouche Sound created by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt and his partner, violinist Stephane Grappelli. Manouche is a hybrid jazz style that melds the virtuoso instrumentals of European gypsy music with prewar American swing. Manouche Jazz today is modern and vibrant, playful and passionate, with many surprising turns of phrase and a driving swing beat. The New Gypsy Swing Quintet features Morris Manning, Dono Schabner, and Steve Kopri, guitars; Micah Carbonneau, upright bass; and is led by jazz violinist Doug Reid. They regularly perform at concerts, festivals, club dates, and private parties, and are based in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. In March 2006, the NGSQ was honored to be featured in a live broadcast concert on “Jazz in the Evening with George Thomas” on Vermont Public Radio. All are accomplished veterans of the national music scene, and the infectious fun they have on stage quickly spreads through the audience, for an unforgettable evening of 'le Jazz Hot'! Read more...
